Types of Appliances

elastics (rubber bands)

RUBBER BANDS OR ELASTICS:

These are used to improve the fit of your upper and lower teeth. It is important to wear them as instructed, as they work most effectively when worn as prescribed.

forsus

FORSUS:

This device promotes growth in adolescents and helps eliminate excessive overbites, improve teeth fit, and possibly prevent jaw surgery.

headgear

HEADGEAR:

Headgear treats overbites or underbites by gently “pulling” on your teeth to restrict further growth of your upper teeth and jaw.

herbst appliance

HERBST APPLIANCE:

This fixed appliance is worn mainly by younger, growing children and encourages the lower jaw forward and the upper molars backward, reducing overbite.

palatal expander

PALATAL EXPANDER:

This appliance widens your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars.

positioner

POSITIONERS:

These complete the final tooth movements in your orthodontic treatment and are worn for several weeks.

retainers

RETAINERS:

These hold your teeth in their new, correct positions after your teeth have been straightened.

separator

SEPARATORS OR SPACERS:

These rubber doughnuts are placed between your teeth to push them apart so that orthodontic bands may be placed during your next appointment.

TWIN BLOCK APPLIANCE:

This involves two separate appliances (one for the upper arch and one for the lower arch) working together to create an advanced lower jaw position.

MARA APPLIANCE:

This fixed appliance encourages the growth of the lower jaw to help correct severe malocclusion and minimize the need for extractions or orthognathic surgery.
